Welcome to Mathis Market!

Our family has been dedicated to dairy farming for generations. It all began when our great-grandparents, Edison and Anita Mathis, left Hooppole, Illinois, in 1958 to pursue their dream of raising a family on a farm. They settled just south of Neillsville, WI, on Highway 73. In 1979, their son Howard and his wife Kathy took over, continuing the family tradition while raising their three children—Samuel, Elizabeth, and Benjamin—with hard work and pride.

At just 18, Sam—our dad—founded Countryman’s Custom Cropping, starting with a single self-propelled windrower to help local farmers. In 2002, he and Mom purchased the family’s 35-cow herd, followed by the farm property in 2005. Since then, they’ve grown Mathis Dairy into a 500-head operation, staying true to their mission:

Today, we milk 240 cows using four Lely robotic milkers, raise all our young stock on-site, and farm 800 acres to feed our herd. Most of the work is done by our family, with the help of a few dedicated high school employees and a team of summer field workers. We've also revived custom cropping, offering chopping, hauling, and forage storage services to local farms.

With decades of experience raising high-quality meat for our own family, we’ve perfected the art of producing flavorful, tender beef. We specialize in Angus-Holstein cross steers, known for their rich depth of flavor. They are grass-fed and grain-finished, creating a perfectly tender final product. 

We love sharing our products with other foodies, so in 2022, we expanded our farm and opened Mathis Market—your source for our farm-raised beef, pork, chicken, homemade maple syrup, and more. To ensure the best quality, our beef is 21-day dry-aged and carefully processed by Blair Meat Market, delivering wholesome, flavorful products for your family to enjoy.
